Most of the children from the South Haltom area
are latch key children.

The After School Program entitled EMPOWER
allows children a place to come to from 3:30 -
6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Included in this program of structured activities
are:

• Healthy afternoon snacks
• Tutoring help with homework
• Mentoring
• Games (including pool, ping-pong, video
  games, and more)

In conjunction with the local Independent School District, we have developed a structured summer program entitled Step Above, that is in operation from 1 - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This program is built around each child's educational needs. Our full-time, State-Certified teachers evaluate each child's needs, then designs a plan of action to help the child get a step ahead for the next school
year.

The daily schedule consists of:

• 1:00 p.m. - Healthy Snack Time
• 1:30 p.m. - Developmental Education
• 2:00 p.m. - Math
• 2:45 p.m. - Reading
• 3:15 p.m. - Writing
• 3:30 p.m. - Social Skills (stories or
  general life skills that should be learned
  at an early age)

On Fridays, we have an educational
field trip. The students earn points all week (that depend upon their attendance and good behavior) in order for them to participate in the field trip.

• Fort Worth Zoo
• Texas Rangers Game
• Skating
• Exxon Mobil Corporate Office

The children also attended Camp Carter in
August.
